Cyrille Oswald started playing professionally in 1994 when living in the Carribean. Upon returning to the Netherlands, he formed a latin ensemble and studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where he graduated in 2001. In that year, he started a quartet called Amalgam, and recorded an album and performed original compositions. In 2004 he recorded another album with originals, together with Danish guitarist Mikkel Ploug. In 2007, Cyrille Oswald set up a new trio and quartet with Stefan Lievestro on acoustic bass, Jeroen van Vliet on piano en Erik Kooger on drums. They also recorded the cd "Nerve" which was acclaimed both by the public and the press (5 stars in JAZZ magazine).
Since 2007, Cyrille Oswald is dividing his time between the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. In the Netherlands, he is a member of the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra and the Cubop City Big Band and a freelancer with numerous other projects and bands. In the Czech Republic he formed a quartet with David Doruzka on guitar, Tomas Liska on bass and Dano Soltis on drums. They just recorded their first cd, which will be released on Animal Music in March 2010. Cyrille also recorded a new cd with drummer Tomas Hobzek, American pianist Dan Tepfer and Tomas Liska, and this recording will also be released the next year.
Cyrille currently teaches music at the French School in Prague and continues to teach saxophone.
